Who I work with
My practice includes a full range of life issues including: grief and loss, relationship issues, parenting issues, coping with depression, anxiety, chemical addiction, or addiction to unhealthy relationships, and family issues. I work with adults, couples, elders, and their caregivers.
ADULTS
At different times we experience unresolved or new situations that affect our sense of clarity, calm and balance. We find ourselves repeating painful and destructive behaviors. Psychotherapy can provide a means to better understand our feelings. It brings more awareness to the cause of self defeating patterns and behaviors. Once awareness and understanding occurs you have the power to change. This empowering process is what causes life to feel more satisfying and full.
COUPLES
Some of our greatest anguish and heartache comes about due to the
difficulties we experience in our intimate relationships. Couples who are
unable to communicate effectively and navigate conflict respectfully often
get into heated arguments or avoid conflict altogether. Unfortunately, this
only causes deepening resentment and further withdrawing from one another.
Therefore, the primary focus in working with couples is to help you bridge
your differences with kindness and respect as you learn better communication
and problem solving skills. This allows you to create a relationship in which
both partners feel heard, understood and respected. Effective communication
not only requires being heard and understood, but also learning how to listen
authentically.
Relationships are what connect us to life itself. Therefore, learning effective
communication and authentic listening can improve your intimate relationships
as well as those you have with others.
ELDERS
Although aging is a natural process, it’s not always an easy one, nor is it immune to the usual variation of all of life: disappointment in love, difficulty with family members, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and substance abuse. In addition, the aging often must deal with the issues of steady decline of health, loss of loved ones, and their own mortality.
My work with elders is done with sincere gentleness, kindness, patience and welcoming of the sometimes difficult truths in life. We work together to maximize physical, psychological and spiritual health.
FAMILY CAREGIVERS
The gift of caretaking is a gift of love; however, it can be a difficult task leading to isolation, depression, anger and resentment. The caretaker may need support and guidance in dealing with unresolved family issues. This would be done in a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space.
